Pompei and Ercolano
The archaeological excavations of Pompeii and Ercolano, the two cities destroyed by the explosive eruction of the Vesuvius in the 79 d.C., are surely the most important in all of Italy.
By entering in the two cities you will have the impression of walking directly in history, discovering uses and places of an age which made the greatness of the peninsula. The lava and the ash which had coated Pompeii and Ercolano during the eruction allowed to a perfect conservation of the places and the corpses: the two archaeological sites are true open-haired museum.
